A Sad Day

Today we lost Sniffer, one of Casper's kittens.

We had moved them down to the basement because Kitty had been terrorized by Casper and was emaciated. Apparently she wouldn't come out of Amelia's room to get food or water or go to the litter box for fear of Casper. So Casper and her kittens were moved downstairs so Kitty could feel safe and comfortable in her own house and regain her health.

Sniffer had been the one that was always separate from the others. Cloudy and Maggie always played together and Sniffer was left on her own. Amelia noticed she was getting thin like Kitty had been. I thought she was just littler than the others. Two days ago I really looked at her and became very worried. She was thin and not moving well and, it appeared, not eating or drinking either. I surfed the Internet to see what I could do overnight to try and help her until I could get her to the vet. I brought her upstairs and put her in a box with stuffed animals and a blanket and the vaporizer to help her breathing (she seemed to be having difficulty). Her gums and tongue, I noticed, were white. Not a nice pink color like I thought they should be. I wanted to take her temperature but didn't have a rectal thermometer. I was up till 2am with her and then up to check on her at 5am. I took her to the vet at 11:30 and she died on the table there.
